Help Support our Programs
Productive Alternatives Incorporated was founded in 1959 as a non-profit organization in Fergus Falls under the name of Lake Region Rehabilitation, Inc. (LRRI). The agency originally provided work services to persons with physical or mental disabilities residing in the Regional Treatment Center. Since merging with the Otter Tail County Developmental Activities Center (DAC) in 1988, the new entity was named Productive Alternatives, Inc. Over the last 20 years continued expansion has resulted in numerous branch sites in places such as Alexandria in Douglas County, Little Falls in Morrison County, and Brainerd/Baxter in Crow Wing County.
Productive Alternatives currently serves over 700 persons with disabilities on a daily basis, providing services to more than 14 counties in west central Minnesota. Our budget has grown from approximately $150,000 in 1980 to nearly $7,000,000.00 in 2006, with a staff of nearly 200. We continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities and create opportunities for individuals to become contributing members of local communities.
The services we provide are made possible through generous donations from individuals and foundations, as well as by the employers who hire Productive Alternatives' constituents and the businesses that sell our products. Please consider donating to our organization, employing our workers, or purchasing/selling our products if you are interested in supporting the services we provide.
Interested parties may also want to consider joining our board of directors. The board is responsible for the legal, moral, fiscal, and ethical well-being of Productive Alternatives, Inc.; its members determine agency policy and goals, approve the annual budget, and ensure that agency programs continue to meet the high standards of service we have set. For more information on becoming a member of the board, please contact Steve Skauge at 218-998-5638.
