Who is eligible?

People 18 years of age or older may request admittance to the Detox Center as an informal patient for observation, evaluation, diagnosis, care and treatment. A person may be involuntarily admitted for detox pursuant to MN Statute 253.B, Subdivision 2.

ADMISSION PROFILE

  • Individuals who appear intoxicated
  • Individuals who experience physical, mental or emotional problems due to withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs
  • Individuals held under apprehend and hold orders under MN Statutes, Section 253B.07, Subdivision 2B
  • Individuals who have been committed under MN Statutes, Chapter 23B and in need of temporary placement
  • Individuals who are under emergency holds or Peace or Health Officer holds pursuant to MN Statue Section 256G.02, Subdivision 4
  • Individuals who need to stay temporarily in a protective environment because of a chemical dependency crisis
  • Individuals who meet the criteria on the PAI Detox Center Triage Plan

PROGRAM

Once an individual has been admitted to the Detox Center, the monitoring and evaluation program begins and is conducted over the next 40-72 hours

First 24 hours – Medical Watch

Alcohol or drug used is being eliminated from the blood stream. Withdrawal is possible. Each individual is monitored very carefully and medication is given per established protocol, when necessary.

Second 24 hours – Chemical Use Assessments

Each individual has a chemical use assessment completed by a qualified Assessor. The Assessor will interview, evaluate and make recommendations based on individual patient needs.

Third 24 hours

This time is used when a patient is experiencing significant withdrawal or legal / social service matters are pending.

Once admitted to the PAI Detox Center, a judge is the only person who can interrupt this process and release a patient from Detox.
