Randy was looking for an industrial setting as his workplace of choice. Randy is deaf and cannot hear instructions or words. Randy knew sign language, but most hearing people do not. Productive Alternatives' challenge was to find Randy the work he wanted, but avoid drawing attention to Randy's disability.
Randy accepted a position offered to him at a local Laser cutting machine shop. He enjoyed the work and remains in that position to this day. About six months after Randy was hired, one of Productive Alternatives' staff met with the Laser shop's owner. The business owner stated what a good worker Randy is, but he sure doesn't talk much! Randy gave permission to Productive Alternatives to disclose his disability to the employer, who was literally astounded he had a deaf employee.
